Hospital Visit
We have lived in Finland for 8 months. EK has been in the hospital twice! We were outside playing in the snow on Friday climbing on snow mountains and enjoying a nice day. Near the snow mountains there is an ice rink and some of the area around the rink is very slippery. EK was walking over the ice and fell on her left arm. She cried a bit so we took her home. After taking off her snowsuit we pulled up her sleve and her arm was not straight, it was bent in the middle, definately a broken bone!
Of to the hospital we go! We went to check in and the nurse looked at her arm, yep broken, off to x-ray and to meet with a surgeon..a SURGEON?? Okay I am a bit nervous in hospitals here because I dont know the language and I dont know how things are done here, so I try to breathe and just think that it is a precaution. She goes to x-ray, not a wimper, not a peep nothing. She is so wonderful! She didnt have any pain medicine at this point at all, and she was so well behaved! If a Doctor wanted to see her arm she would pull up her shirt sleve and show them, when they were done she would pull down her sleve and go on with her business. Then we met with the surgeon who again confirmed that it was broken! We waited for quite some time and they gave us two options, first they could give her some medicine to relax her while they set her arm, which required pulling her arm to get the bones back in place, or putting her to sleep while they set the arm. We decided to put her to sleep. They asked us to stay in the hospital overnight because the surgeon wanted to be there when they set her arm, just incase it would set right.

Off to our new home for the night! Room 9 in the Childrens area. We had our own room with a TV and VCR and a huge cabinet full of movies! Pollo is Owl in Finnish. The whole childrens are is all Pooh Bear, or Nalle Puh in Finnish!
P stayed with her for the night while I took SA home for a few (6) hours of sleep! This is how I found EK when we got back! She was sleeping so sweet.
When EK woke up we had to wait for the surgery for a few hours so the girls cuddled up and watched movies!
Getting ready to go under to have her arm set! This is after they gave her some medicine to make her sleepy!
Mommy and SA waiting for EK!
After getting her arm set! They put her under to set her arm, but no surgery needed! She was gone for about 2.5 hours.
We are home now! 24 hours later!
